First Minister's Reading Challenge
The First Minister’s Reading Challenge aims to help children and young people between the ages of 5 and 18 develop a love of reading

What is the First Minister's Reading Challenge?
We challenge you to build a reading culture and to help children and young people discover the power of reading. If you work with young people aged 5-18, the First Minister's Reading Challenge is open for you.
Resources and inspiration
We have lots of resources available to help you on your reading journey, from guides to taking part and lesson plans to quizzes and games.

Keeping your reading culture alive during lockdown
This resource provides support and ideas to help you continue to build a strong reading culture.
We have included examples from schools and libraries across Scotland to give you a flavour of how other educational settings are adapting to the current situation. You do not need to use all the activities in this resource; choose activities that suit you, your setting and your school priorities.

Reading Resolutions
Use this short resource to choose a reading resolution to inspire your pupils this year. The resource includes sample resolutions for primary and secondary pupils, or pupils can make up their own. Resolutions have been chosen with school closures in mind, so this is a great activity to set you pupils remotely.

Using Bookzilla in your Secondary School
Bookzilla is Scottish Book Trust's free app for early secondary school students in Scotland, designed by and with teenagers. The app encourages pupils to read for pleasure, whether they are already regular readers or just embarking on their reading journey, including book recommendations, ratings and reading dares.
This resource includes ideas for using the app in school, including activities to use in school library sessions, class time and book group meetings.
