Festive author events

To take you through to the end of term, we’ve planned some fun festive events and activities!

Author events

We have three exciting author events coming up, exclusively for schools, libraries and community groups taking part in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge! All you need to do is make sure you're signed up for the Reading Challenge and each registered user will receive an email with a link to watch the events.

If you haven’t yet signed up for the Challenge, make sure you do so by midday on Tuesday 7 December. We’ll send out the link to the events at 3pm that day, and the events will premiere on Wednesday 8 December at 11am. They’ll then be available to watch on demand for one month.

Draw-along with Rob Biddulph for P1–4Front cover of Odd Dog Christmas

Based on his new picture book, Odd Dog Christmas, Rob will read an excerpt from the story and then show you how to draw your very own Odd Dog - not just for Christmas! Be in with a chance of winning a signed copy of Odd Dog Christmas by sharing a photo of your drawings on Twitter!

Writing festive murder mysteries with Maisie Chan and Elle McNicoll Front cover of The Very Merry Murder Clubfor P5–S2

Based on their short stories from The Very Merry Murder Club, Maisie and Elle will read extracts from the collection and set some fun activities for you to try. Give Maisie's festive food challenge a go, or write your very own festive murder mystery with Elle's creative writing prompt. You could also enter Scottish Book Trust’s book of the month competition to try to win a copy of the collection!

Festive teen cheer with Juno Dawson for S3–6Front cover of Stay Another Day

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and all we want for Christmas is Juno Dawson to join us with her new YA novel, Stay Another Day. Come along to this exclusive event to hear Juno read a chapter from the story and answer questions from secondary school pupils across the country. But it’ll be cold outside when she sends schools away with a writing activity – to create stories inspired by their favourite Christmas songs.

We've also planned an advent calendar of festive reading and writing activities, with a printable poster to colour in as you go!
